Madonna's work ethic is
extraordinary. She was the hardest working person on the tour ---
always on site before anyone else, and rehearsing late into the night,
long after everyone else had departed. She is extremely professional,
envisioning every detail of her show and following it through to its
completion. On BLOND AMBITION she came to the first preproduction
meeting (about 4 months prior to the start of rehearsals) with a
complete set of sketches and scenic renderings for her show (along
with a year's supply of "Hot Tamales" candy---I owe my
present addiction to her). In addition she proceeded to carefully
describe, step by step, the progression of the show --- both musically
and scenically. The realization of the production was exactly as she
had envisioned, and was, perhaps, the most dynamic show I have ever
worked on.
The easiest way to describe what
it's like working with Madonna is that we were on the edge of our
seats for every show --- not so much because we were intent on
getting everything right, but because we didn't dare get anything
wrong! She is quick to spot any mistake, no matter how trivial. She is
very exacting in everything around her, and her perfectionism is
obvious in the caliber of production that surrounds her. A great
challenge. A great experience.
Her creative energy is
contagious. "Blond Ambition" is the one tour I still hear
the most comments about. It was extremely theatrical in its approach,
while maintaining the rock energy and high quality of the music. It is
still one of my proudest projects.
