1999 Tour
with Brooks & Dunn
As always, Reba's shows are ambitious in size and scope.
For the 1999 tour with Brooks & Dunn, we designed an
extremely large stage, considering the size of B&D's band,
and the fact that Reba appeared virtually alone on stage for
her performance. I designed the lighting with a wide
range of automated fixtures, including 2.5KW Arri Fresnels
that lowered in on automated pantographs. This effect not only
intensified some moments on stage with the high output
fixutres, but also allowed us to bring the focus on such a
wide stage down to Reba while in a fixed position.
Ironically, such an intense, high output actually created some
moments of intimacy---even with a combined output in excess of
10,000 footcandles!! There was a good supply of conventional
par cans and artuculating arms in the lighting system that
allowed for a more traditional rock look for the Brooks &
Dunn segments. Additionally, we assured the difference
in the overall appearance of each act, by utilizing different
teams of programmers for Reba and Brooks & Dunn...
To Reba's credit, as with all of her larger-than-life sets,
the intimacy of her performance and her connection with the
audience never suffered.... As always, she is a genuine,
loving performer; and this always came through---no matter the
size of the physical area and distances around her...
